Each section on the map has things to do or collect. Castaway features three islands to wander around on: a large main island, and two smaller ones. There's plenty to explore and collect too. Instead, the game is more of a point and click adventure title, focused on exploration of the island and using the environment for the Sim's benefit. Food is always in abundance, and there are tons of areas to take care of most of the other needs.

Sure there are a lot of things to take care of, like eating, but it's all pretty easy to accomplish. The game is not merely about survival, and it's not even the main focus.

Instead of three things to replenish for survival, the Sims on the island have the full gamut of needs, from hunger, to sleep, to needing to use the little castaway's room.

What sets Castaway apart from the Lost in Blue series is the signature Sims elements. If it sounds familiar, it's probably because the DS has seen two Lost in Blue titles that essentially did the same thing.

With only the tattered, yet stylish, clothes on his or her back, the player's Sim must figure out how to survive. Still The Sims 2: Castaway, developed by Full Fat, creates a survival-adventure that is less about actual survival, and actually manages to be fun, despite it's flaws.Д¬astaway starts with the player's Sim falling into a crate, which, in turn, falls off of a boat, and gets washed ashore a tropical island. Balancing basic needs with exploration is an obvious choice for an adventure title, so obvious that it's been done before.

Here players are allowed to use special вЂњportalsвЂќ depending on their skills, and motives, or craft their own vehicles, like one would if stranded on an island.We wish we could say an adventure game about being trapped on a deserted island was a great original idea. Moving across the islands also works differently, since there are no cabs, no cars or bikes. Clothes also need to be crafted and sewed. Since you are stranded you are obligated to construct a shelter yourself, with the material you have found. The freedom found in other titles is swapped out for other objectives. Lastly The Sims 2: Castaway is an entirely single-player game, departing from the other console version which had a two-player mode. Adding to this, the Sims are also unable to constitute a family or have sex. Relationships also donвЂ™t work in the same way, with more specific guidelines being required for developing friendships, and relationships. There are some differences that might not please all the classic The Sims fans, for once thereвЂ™s no actual age progression, and time would seem to stand still if the Sims hairs wouldnвЂ™t grow. These searches can feel tiresome, and somewhat pointless, especially considering the type of game The Sims is supposed to be. And of course, these secrets are all hidden behind specific objectives and sets of collectibles. Amongst the multiple islands, there are various treasure maps, secret areas, and discoverable secrets to keep players entertained. The narrative and set quests take players on a journey to find salvation and finally escape their fate. Through exploration new islands are revealed, and new objectives and quests as well. Players are part of a crew of six Sims, that take a boat paradisiacal vacation. Here we see a departure from that model of complete freedom and see players cast in a pre-set wreckage scenario. The original titles focused on complete freedom to imagining and creating characters from scratch and building any life they saw fit.
